Become a substitute educator in Orange County.

Requirements vary based on the position, but in general, substitute teachers need a minimum of 60 college credits/Associate's degree and paraeducators need a minimum of high school diploma.

While every role in education has unique requirements, having an Education degree or prior work experience is typically not required for most roles.

Pay rates for Orange County Public Schools substitute positions are as follows:

• Substitute teacher (60+ college credits) - $120/day
• Substitute teacher (with Bachelors or higher) - $130/day
• Certified teachers (with 3 consecutive positive year end reviews) - $135/day
• Substitute teacher (Retired Teachers) – $145/day
  • Must provide current FRS statement or statement from state you retired
• Substitute teacher (High Needs Schools) - $155/day
• Substitute teacher (Extended Hour Schools) - $170/day
• ESE paraprofessional – $13.50/hour or $15.75/hour
  • $13.50/hr – Program Asst Basic, ED Para Phys ED, ED Para Bilin, ED Para Pre-K
  • $15.75/hr – ED Para Sev Hand, Program Asst ESE, Ex Ed Para
• Long term substitute teacher assignments (assignments that extend beyond 10 consecutive days in the same classroom)
  • With Bachelor’s degree - $188.78 starting on the 11th day
  • With Master’s degree or higher - $202.07 starting on the 11th day

Payday is weekly on Fridays. Direct deposit option is available.

First, we have plenty of daily substitute teaching opportunities to maximize your earning potential and provide you with steady work. Second – once you are hired – you are eligible to earn $100 for every person you refer to us and begins working. The more you refer, the more you earn!

Here is a general idea of what you can expect:

1. Submit application. Let us know you’re interested and a Kelly Education recruiter will follow up with you on next steps.
2. Fill out a pre-screen form. This will be sent to you to confirm that a few minimum requirements are met.
3. Join a virtual group interview. Learn more about our available positions in your area and see if a job in education is a good fit.
4. Schedule your oral swab drug testing and fingerprint appointment – Fingerprint, drug testing and background checks are completed to ensure a safe environment for students.
5. Submit required documents. Two reference letters, resume, education verification.
6. Complete our classroom management training. This free, required training will prepare you to be confident in your new role.
7. Attend our paid orientation. Learn about the policies and procedures for working with Kelly Education and the education institution.
   • Please note, if you have ever worked, volunteered or applied with OCPS, a separate approval from the district is required to resume working.
8. Start working!

We pride ourselves on flexible work opportunities, so we do not require a regular hourly or daily commitment. However, there is a minimum requirement that all employees work one day within first 30 days of hire, and then three Mondays or Fridays in a given 45-day calendar period.
