Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the more frequently asked questions about KES. For more information, contact your local Kelly branch.

Why should I apply to Kelly Educational Staffing?
Being a KES substitute teacher has many benefits. Because of our broad network of schools and school districts, you have a greater chance of secure employment, plus the chance to choose your own assignments. Want to try out different schools and learning environments? You can do that too!

You can even work with Kelly to take non-teaching assignments and develop different skill sets whenever you’re not teaching. And you’ll always get great benefits, including competitive weekly pay and holiday/vacation pay.

Can I choose where to work?
You bet! As a KES substitute you will use our automated scheduling system, KASS.  By using KASS, you can designate preferred schools and/or districts to work in. You can even tell us how far you’re willing to drive to get to work.

Can I choose when to work?
Yes. Like all Kelly employees, you can designate which days you’re available to work. You can also accept or decline any assignment we send.  KASS makes this an especially easy task - whether online or by telephone - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How much are KES teachers paid?
While each school/school district determines the pay rates, rest assured, you’ll receive a very competitive pay rate for this profession.

Is there a fee to work as a substitute teacher with KES?
No - Kelly employees never pay a fee to work. The schools and/or districts pay all administrative costs.

Can I take other jobs with Kelly while working with KES?
Absolutely! When you’re not teaching, you can take on some non-teaching work to improve your skills or just earn some extra money.  Kelly always has jobs available in many different fields and industries.
