How will substitute teachers know the classroom/school policies?
As part of our implementation process, detailed information is obtained from each school and provided to substitute teachers during orientation to ensure they are well prepared to enter the classroom.
What if my school is not pleased with a substitute teacher?
Kelly Educational Staffing takes the performance and conduct of our substitute teachers very seriously. We encourage teacher/administrator feedback, both positive and negative, regarding our substitute teachers and our service delivery. We will investigate and take the appropriate action to resolve the matter promptly. Should you have any concerns regarding our employees or our service delivery, please notify us immediately.
Who will direct the classroom activities of the substitute teacher?
OCPS will always remain in charge of the supervision, direction and control of substitute teachers while performing their duties. All matters of instructional services, such as curriculum design, lesson planning, classroom activities, etc., remain the responsibility of OCPS.
What types of qualifications will Kelly Educational Staffing substitute teachers have?
Kelly Educational Staffing mirrors the OCPS hiring process. Our substitute teachers are carefully screened and trained to meet all state, local and OCPS qualifications and requirements.
What kinds of training do Kelly Educational Staffing substitute teachers receive?
All Kelly Educational Staffing substitute teachers must complete an orientation and training session before entering the classroom. This includes:
- School-specific training to meet each school district’s requirements
- Substitute teacher orientation, including a review of topics such as classroom management, teaching strategies, fill-in activities, and legal and health related issues
- A Kelly Educational Staffing program orientation

How will principals/teachers request substitute teachers?
Kelly uses an automated scheduling system. The Kelly Automated Scheduling System (KASS) is an easy-to-use system that can be accessed via the Internet or the telephone. Principals and teachers use KASS to log absences.
Substitute teachers use KASS to accept classroom assignments for which they qualify. Also, our scheduling system enables principals and teachers to assign a specific substitute teacher for a future absence. Additionally, by utilizing our automated scheduling system, many schools benefit from our reporting and diagnostic tools.
What if a school wants to hire me full-time?
Kelly Educational Staffing is pleased to hear that some of our substitute teachers are being hired by OCPS! Congratulations! Kelly Educational Staffing can help to facilitate your move to a full-time employee of OCPS. If you are the substitute teacher, please make sure you pick up both the Fingerprint/Drug Screen Transition Form required by OCPS and the Instructional Letter. You will need to take the Fingerprint/Drug Screen Transition Form to OCPS's orientation. You will need to keep the Instructional Letter for the time you transition back to Kelly Educational Staffing.
